Municipal Law Enforcement (By-law)
Municipal Law Enforcement is a branch of the Administration & Finance Department with offices located at 1000 Taylor Court. The Municipal Law Enforcement Officers are responsible for the enforcement of numerous bylaws including parking (on street and private property), animal control, town docks and ramps, public parks, noise, burning, unsightly premises and many others. Officers are responsible for reviewing and issuing business licences as well as operating a municipal dog pound for dogs picked up while running at large in the community.
Enforcement Officers work from 8:30 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m., Monday to Friday. However, if you have a concern and require an officer to assist you after these regular hours or on weekdays and statutory holidays, you can leave a message with the after hours message service and an officer will get back to you as soon as possible. The telephone number for the message service is the same as the municipal office. Please be advised that any concerns after 10:00 p.m. should be forwarded to the officers on the following day. Urgent concerns after 10:00 p.m. should be forwarded to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Below is some information on the more commonly requested bylaws as well as links to other regulatory bylaws in the Town of Bracebridge.
Public Boat Docks and Launches (Bylaw 2003-077)
The Town of Bracebridge owns and maintains several public docks and boat launching facilities. These facilities are provided free of charge to the general public for launching and short term docking purposes. Generally speaking, the docking of a boat at a public dock is not permitted for a duration of greater than 4 hours. Overnight docking is prohibited. Certain docks are set aside for loading/unloading purposes and the maximum docking period is 15 minutes. All of the public docks and launches are well signed and the public is asked to adhere to the posted regulations. Boats docked in contravention of the bylaw may be impounded at the owner’s expense. Dog Licensing and Dogs at Large (Bylaw 2007-042)
Every dog within the Town of Bracebridge must be licenced annually. Licence fees are $10.00 per year for spayed and neutered dogs and $25.00 per year for unaltered dogs. Every person in charge of a dog must ensure that they pick up and dispose of dog feces in a sanitary manner. Dog owners must ensure that their dogs are not running “at large” at any time. Dogs must be kept on the owner’s property or under control at all times when off the property. Dogs picked up while running at large will be impounded until such time as the owner can be located. Dog owners are responsible for paying all outstanding fines, impound charges, boarding and veterinarian fees prior to their dog being released. The entire bylaw may be viewed under “Bylaw 2007-042”.
Noise Control (Bylaw 2006-112)
The Noise Bylaw regulates different types of “noise” and the days and times specific types of noises are prohibited. “Noise” is any unwanted sound that is clearly audible and of such a volume that it causes a disturbance to the person listening to the sound. Musical noise from a stereo, television, amplifier or musical instrument is generally prohibited at any time in residential areas. Likewise, the persistent barking of a dog is not permitted to disturb residents of Bracebridge at any time. Domestic tools such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, saws and the like are not permitted to disturb the residents of Bracebridge between the hours of 9:00pm and 7:00am (9:00am on Sundays and holidays). Unsightly Premises (Bylaw 98-111)
This bylaw (also known as the Clean Yards Bylaw) requires the owner of every property in the Town of Bracebridge to keep their property clear of garbage, debris and inoperative motor vehicles. It also requires that all fences and structures be kept in a safe condition. The entire bylaw may be viewed at “Bylaw 98-111”.
Burning Bylaw 2004-145
The Burning Bylaw regulates open air burning. Generally speaking, the only permitted fires within the urban area of Bracebridge are campfires for cooking and warmth. The burning of leaves and other yard waste is not permitted in the urban area of Bracebridge at any time. In the rural areas of Bracebridge, slash pile fires are also permitted between November 1st and March 31st only. Slash pile fires are set in order to burn yard waste such as branches and leaves. If a fire is creating any discomfort, irritation or nuisance to other residents, it must be extinguished.
